Tesco has signed a deal with application release automation software business Nolio, in order to deliver consistent software across all of its global online operations.

Looking to speed up role out of online to all markets

This move by Tesco will introduce a standard automation solution across the whole of its Tesco.com platforms. Having one solution in place will help the worlds largest online grocery retailer deliver its ambition to become a multi-channel retailer wherever it trades. In the company's 2011 annual report, published last week, Tesco announced that it would be launching online operations into all markets in the next few years and this move, delivering a consistent approach, will help speed up the delivery of this.

Thinking globally, acting locally

The Nolio solution will be utilised across Tesco’s data centres and will allow a uniformity in all of its online shopping platforms. Although Tesco will design specific websites and applications for each market in which it introduces online retailing, the software behind the process will be consistent and therefore updates and improvements can be easily delivered to all markets. The move also ties in with Tesco's approach to applying its group skill and scale to drive a more efficient business, but at the same time allows it to still tailor offers specifically to the markets in which it operates.

Aim is to 'go faster' in the next decade

Vipul Shah, Tesco.com head of release deployment and software configuration management, commented, "Nolio allows us to greatly speed-up our roll-out processes and ensure higher quality of releases. The product’s ease of use is hugely beneficial to us in terms of maintainability and reducing overhead. Our core strategy for this decade is to ‘Go Faster’ and we always strive to become better, simpler, and cheaper. Nolio ASAP fits in well with this ethos and ensures we have the right mechanism in place to deliver exciting new offerings to our customers."
