Practical guides

These guides are designed to provide practical help in developing and implementing solutions to the issues that affect your supply chain. They have been developed by people in organisations that deal with these issues every day and have real expertise in the subject.

Many of these tools have been developed by ECR UK. ECR brings together representatives from manufacturers and retailers to develop and share best practice initiatives in response to the biggest issues affecting the food and grocery supply chain.

As retailers’ businesses become increasingly multi channel, suppliers must ensure that their supply chains are ready for the changes that this will bring. Networks and processes must be able to deal with the needs of a range of store formats from petrol station forecourts, through convenience and high street supermarkets to out of town hypermarkets. In addition the development of on line, click and collect and virtual stores means that it is critical for suppliers to be able to meet the new supply chain needs if they are to remain competitive across all channels. To use this tool you need to be able to download and run macro enabled Excel 2007 files.

As retail supply chains become more responsive, lead times are reducing and order frequencies are increasing. Retailers are increasingly moving products into their stockless networks, managing products from across their ranges in the same way as the fresh and produce categories. This means lead times of less than 24 hours, combined with daily ordering, and even multiple orders in one day. Adapting to these requirements can be a major challenge for suppliers, and our new tool can help suppliers identify what they need to do adapt to the changes.
