Amazon has announced plans to open a new fulfilment centre in Darlington, County Durham. The 1.5m square-foot site will be the retailer’s first fulfilment centre in the North East and will create more than 1,000 new permanent jobs.
Advanced Amazon Robotics technology
The Darlington site will use advanced Amazon Robotics technology, with robots sliding under a tower of shelves where products are stowed and moving it through the fulfilment centre.
More than 1,000 new jobs created
In the New Year, Amazon will begin recruiting staff for the new site, for a range of roles, including engineers, HR and IT professionals, health and safety staff, finance specialist and operations managers.

Amazon’s vice president of UK Customer Fulfillment, Stefano Perego, said:
“We are excited to start the New Year with a recruitment drive for 1,000 new permanent roles in Darlington, with competitive wages and comprehensive benefits starting on day one,”
