Deliveroo expands on-demand grocery delivery

Date : 23 October 2019

Food and grocery delivery service Deliveroo has signed up more than 200 independent and symbol convenience stores and off licences in London, according to reports from The Grocer.

On-demand grocery deliveries

In an effort to expand its reach of on-demand grocery delivery, Deliveroo has signed up over 200 symbol and independent convenience stores across London. Partner retailers include Budgens, Nisa, Costcutter, One Stop, Best One and Londis. According to the report, this number was closer to 20 in August this year.

This follows the news in July that Sainsbury’s is partnering with the delivery specialist to bring freshly baked pizzas from its counters direct to consumers homes. Launching in five stores – Cambridge, Selly Oak, West Hove, Pimlico and Hornsey – across four UK cities, the trial is the first time that a UK supermarket has offered hot takeaways through Deliveroo, giving customers the chance to order food from Sainsbury’s counters online. Co-op also partners with Deliveroo offering a home delivery scheme in Manchester, London, Brighton and Milton Keynes.

Rapid delivery services

Due to shoppers rising expectations for quicker, more convenient deliveries, we are increasingly seeing retailers investing to improve their delivery standards, not only offering same day delivery, but also more immediate solutions for shoppers.

The news follows a series of similar developments in the UK market. Co-op launched its first online home delivery service that offers customers delivery in as little as two hours. Earlier this year, Ocado launched its own one-hour delivery service in West London, Ocado Zoom. Morrisons also expanded its home delivery deal with Amazon to new cities, offering customers same-day delivery on Morrisons products for Amazon Prime Now and Amazon Pantry customers. In June, Waitrose announced the roll out of its Waitrose Rapid Delivery service to more London postcodes, as well as areas outside the capital.
