“World’s first robotic supermarket” to open in Florida

Date : 03 October 2018

Takeoff Technologies has announced the launch of its first automated hyperlocal fulfillment centre, referred to as the world’s first robotic supermarket. It is being launched in partnership with Sedano’s Supermarkets which has 34 locations catering to Florida’s booming Hispanic community.

Takeoff’s automated and AI-enabled robotics assemble full grocery orders in a fraction of the time taken by manual picking. By using robotics and compact vertical spaces, Takeoff’s fulfillment centres can occupy only one-eighth the footprint of a typical supermarket. The first centre will serve 14 Sedano’s locations as well as offering a pickup service.

“The first of many deployments”

“We are excited to partner with Takeoff at the forefront of this groundbreaking robotics solution,” said Javier Herran, Chief Marketing Officer for Sedano’s. “This model gives us the ability to leap into the eGrocery industry, develop a new level of employment opportunities and continue meeting the needs of our valued consumers by offering an affordable and convenient online service.”

“Sedano’s is a great partner for kicking off our solution, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to work alongside them in providing a turn-key eGrocery solution,” said Max Pedro, co-founder and President of Takeoff. “We’re robotizing the supermarket – which has never been done before. This is the first of many deployments we are working on, and shoppers will soon see more local grocery stores with micro- fulfillment centers.”

Takeoff has an exclusive supply arrangement for their robotics with Knapp, the automated warehouse solutions provider. This will enable the company to partner quickly with more grocery chains in the US and abroad.
